My Someday, by Blondfire (2008)

Mr Pinky loves to stumble across new bands like Blondfire who epitomise all that is good about pop music. When Mr Pinky saw the album cover art he assumed they were yet another example of Scandinavian pop mastery but in fact Blondfire are a brother and sister act from New York. They write, record and produce their own music and Erica Driscoll’s dreamy vocals remind me of the best Brit pop.

Funny story is that this duo originally named themselves Astaire but the estate of that famous hoofer took offence at such a tenuous connection and threatened to sue them forcing a change of name. Boy, some people are such grumps!

My Someday boasts plenty of well produced and fab songs full of jangly guitars and quirky keyboards. Favorites include All in my Mind, Pretty Young Thing (no connection to the Michael Jackson ditty) and Lovesick. But the fact is every track is a gem. If you dig Saint Etienne or the Cardigans you’re certain to enjoy this refreshingly poptastic album. Mr Pinky also loves the fact that Blondfire are supporting a petition via a link on their website to get a better known pair of musical siblings “The Carpenters” inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. So get clicking!
